Superintendent’s Message to Parents - August 2008

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is a pleasure to introduce myself to you as your new Superintendent of Schools. As the former Superintendent of Nassau BOCES and previous Superintendent for school districts in Michigan, I look forward to bringing my experience as an educator to the Baldwin School District and becoming a member of this community. During the new school year, in partnership with you, we will build on Baldwin’s foundation for learning and work together to help our students continue to achieve at high levels. I am committed to the strong sense of community that exists in Baldwin and to keeping the school system an integral part of the community fabric.

I am happy to share with you that this school year many curriculum enhancements are in place, including a new science program for students in kindergarten through grade 2, a new reading intervention program at Baldwin Middle School, and new course offerings at Baldwin High School in AP Statistics, AP Italian, Stage Crafts and Entertaining Technology. In addition, middle school students may take Algebra and high school students may take Geometry, in line with the revised New York State math curriculum.

During the first days of school, I will be meeting with students, staff, and groups representing parents, business leaders and others throughout Baldwin. It is my goal to learn as much about the community in as short a period of time as possible so that we can all move forward together to meet the needs of our children.
