Ms. Elaine Monahan

Hello! I am Ms. Monahan, and am so happy to be part of the Brookside Family!  I began preparing for my teaching career as an undergrad where I majored in Early Childhood Education, with a minor in Science.  Shortly thereafter, I  earned my Master's Degree in Reading Diagnosis and Remediation.  Looking to further my ability to remediate students who struggle with reading, I became a certified Reading Recovery Teacher, which led me to compete my Sixth Year Certificate in Supervision and Administration.  I began my teaching career over 20 years ago in Borough Park, Brooklyn, New York, and have served as a general education teacher in grades K, 1, 2, and 3.  I was an active Reading Recovery Teacher for a number of years, before I returned to the classroom as the general education teacher in an inclusive classroom setting in both Kindergarten and Grade One.  I have been part of the Brookside  family for many years, and have delivered Academic Intervention Services in Reading to all grades before returning to the classroom to serve the Baldwin Community as both a remote and live Grade One instructor.  Currently, I will be happily instructing Kindergarten learners as part of Brookside's Kindergarten Team, where I can blend the practices of both Reading Recovery and Fountas and Pinnell's Leveled Literacy Intervention Program, and deliver the best parts of these programs to an entire class, along with the remainder of our extensive Kindergarten Curriculum.
