*ART 4H/ART 4AP – ADVANCED ART 2
Two Credits (Double Period) One Year
Prerequisites: Art 3H Seniors only
The last stop in our art sequence is Art 4. Focusing on advance concepts in drawing, painting, printmaking and various mixed media, this intensive double period art course prepares the student for the completion of an 18-24-piece portfolio. There is strong emphasis on critical and analytical thinking skills, art history discussions and class critiques. Students will have the opportunity to take the Advanced Placement Studio in Art: Drawing Portfolio. All students will create a digital portfolio that will enhance their college admissions process. Sketchbooks are required.

*ART 1 – STUDIO IN ART
One Credit One Year
Prerequisite: None
Got Art? This fun introductory course is designed for all abilities and grades. This exciting course gives the students a perfect opportunity to experience a wide variety of art materials, including drawing pencils, pen and ink, charcoal, clay, pastel, watercolor and acrylic paint. Art 1 is the perfect way to fulfill your one-year art requirement while building your art skills to venture into our Art sequence courses offered at Baldwin High School.

*ART 2 – STUDIO IN DRAWING, PAINTING AND DESIGN
One Credit One Year
Prerequisite: Studio in Art (Art 1)
Got Art Two? Art Two is our next creative adventure in our 5- year Art sequence at Baldwin High School. Art Two focuses on advance drawing and painting techniques. Students learn how to build dynamic compositions while creating successful design solutions. Students will be introduced to the great artists throughout history who will also inspire students to create their own new masterpieces. Sketchbooks are required.

*ART 3H – ADVANCED ART (Honors)
One Credit One Year
Prerequisite: Art 2
Art 3H continues the student’s creative journey, focusing on new advanced drawing and advanced painting skills. Students will be introduced to creative problem solving and explore critical thinking skills in relationship to their art. Students work from life observation, with diverse media and layering techniques. This course is an exciting pre-requisite to Art 4H and will prep students with the appropriate skills and tools for the completion of a portfolio in our Art sequence. Sketchbooks are required.

*ADVANCED PLACEMENT ART HISTORY
One Credit One Year
Prerequisite: None – Open to 10th through 12th graders
What is the story behind the Mona Lisa? Why is Starry Night so famous? Learn the answers to these questions and many, many more in Advanced Placement Art History. This course is an in-depth, chronological survey of painting, photography, architecture, and sculpture. During this course, you will examine art in ways that go far beyond what you have experienced thus far at the high school level. In addition, throughout this course, we will seek to answer these broad questions: How have the visual arts changed the world in the past, and how are the visual arts still changing the world today? By the end of the course, you will be better able to understand and contemplate the connected human experience despite differences in time and distance. No technical art skills are required. You may also earn advanced placement credit.
THE ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMINATION IN MAY IS REQUIRED.

AP 2-D DESIGN (PHOTOGRAPHY, IMAGING ART)
One Credit One Year
Prerequisite: Creative Art or Art 1 and Photo 2 or Advanced Computer Graphics
The AP 2-D Design (Photography, Imaging Art) course is equivalent to a two-semester introductory college course that enables students to develop a cohesive body of work investigating a strong underlying visual idea in 2-D design that grows out of a coherent plan of action or investigation. The course teaches students a variety of concepts and approaches so that the student can demonstrate a range of abilities and versatility that can be demonstrated through either the use of one or the use of several media. The course promotes a sustained investigation of all aspects of portfolio development.

*GRAPHIC DESIGN AND MARKETING FOR VIRTUAL ENTERPRISE
Prerequisites: Photo 1 or Computer Graphics
Some of the largest companies in the world are investing big dollars in infusing a design philosophy into their businesses. Think Apple, Google and Starbucks. Online and print marketing, graphic design, web design, and social media are visual arts that incorporate technological skills. The Graphic Design and Marketing class teaches students a variety of 21st century, real-world, marketable skills. The students in the course will design logos, letterhead, business cards, and more for Baldwin’s Virtual Enterprise company, using professional software including Photoshop, Illustrator and more.

*CREATIVE ART
One-half Credit One-half Year
Prerequisite: None
Students will learn to draw, paint, sculpt and design while utilizing a variety of art mediums. This course is ideal for students who cannot fit a full Year of Art 1 in their schedule but would like the opportunity to be creative.

*CARTOONING
One-half Credit One-half Year
Prerequisite: None - Open to 10th through 12th graders
Learn how to draw characters, develop story lines and comic strips in a variety of styles. Marvel, D.C. and Manga are just a few of the inspired genres we address in the cartoon world.

*SCULPTURE
One-half Credit One-half Year
Prerequisite: None- Open to 10th through 12th graders
Clay, wire, plaster, cardboard and found object are some of the mediums the students will use to create their 3-D masterpieces from. Students will learn techniques and proper practice creating sturdy and aesthetically pleasing sculptures.

*AIRBRUSH PAINTING AND TECHNIQUE
One-half Credit One-half Year
Prerequisite: None - Open to 10th through 12th graders
This popular elective shows students how to properly use the airbrush incorporating various techniques on different surfaces. Students will learn how to spray, blend and create new tonal values, fabric designs, T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts and tank tops. Cleaning and maintenance of materials, techniques and special effects are learned throughout the course.

*ADVANCED COMPUTER GRAPHICS
One-half Credit One-half Year
Prerequisites: Either Computer Graphics, Photo 3 or Media Production
Students will build on their knowledge of Computer Graphics to create artwork on a professional level in our new Digital Media Lab. Students will explore the latest features of the Adobe Creative Suite and expand their knowledge of Photoshop. Illustrator and InDesign will be used for typography, logo design, and product development. Students will learn how to use the latest graphic design software, printers, scanners and Wacom tablets.

*COMPUTER GRAPHICS
One-half Credit One-half Year
Prerequisites: None – Open to 9th through 12th graders
Computer Graphics is an introductory course in graphic design. Students will use the latest Adobe Creative Suite software in our new Digital Media Lab. Students will work on iMac computers in a professional setting learning skills for the 21st Century. The course will focus on basic graphic design principles while they use Photoshop to explore tools and techniques, photo manipulation, color correction, cropping, filters & adjustments, composite imaging, character design, typography and logo design.
*This course fulfills the computer literacy requirement for graduation.

*SILK-SCREEN (and other printmaking)
One-half Credit One-half Year
Prerequisite: None – Open to 10th through 12th graders
The course introduces the students to the world of printmaking. They will learn the process of making, preparing and printing multiple images on a variety of surfaces including t-shirts. Each student will construct his/her own screen and stencil for printing.

*PHOTOGRAPHY 1 (Introduction to Photography)
One-half credit One-half Year
Materials required: Digital camera
Photography 1 is an introductory course where students will learn to take professional photos and operate a DSLR digital camera. Students will learn computer skills in a state-of-the-art photography iMac lab. They will be introduced to several programs in Adobe Creative Cloud. They will be editing their photos in Photoshop and gain valuable experience. Students will learn how to prepare their photographs to be published in New Media such as Instagram and Flickr. Photography 1 may be used to satisfy a one-half credit requirement for art and/or music.

*PHOTOGRAPHY 2 (Altered Photography)
One–half Credit One-half Year
Prerequisite: Photography 1 Materials required: Digital camera
Photography 2 is a course that teaches advanced techniques in Adobe Photoshop and other photo editing software. Students will improve their photo shooting skills. Students will explore experimental and artistic photography. Photography 2 may be used to satisfy a one-half credit requirement for art and/or music.

One-half Credit One-half Year
Prerequisite: Photography 2 Materials required: Digital camera
Photography 3 is a highly individualized course in advanced photography. Students perfect their skills and develop a personal style. Career options and portfolio development will be a major part of the course. Photography 3 may be used to satisfy a one-half credit requirement for art and/or music.
