The Baldwin Union Free School District continues to make enhancements to the 100+year-old facilities and upgrades to meet modern standards, as well as the needs of the 21st century learner. These improvements are a testament to the district's commitment to creating safe, modern, and inviting learning environments for our students, staff, and the community.
The district is proud of the progress being made with the latest capital projects and would like to express gratitude for the support and patience of Baldwin students, parents, and community members throughout these enhancements.

High School Athletic Complex
Artistic Renderings
The High School Athletic Complex is on ‘track’ to become a hub of excellence, fostering a vibrant sporting culture for our students and the broader community.
The project's current focus is the installation of an efficient drainage system, which involves excavation and underground wiring to ensure the longevity and resilience of the playing surface, contributing to a safe and optimal environment for our student athletes.
Simultaneously, progress is evident in the transformation of the spectator areas. The initial steps involve the careful dismantling of existing bleachers, paving the way for the installation of contemporary replacements. The exciting development also includes preparations for the installation of the new grandstands and press box, marking a significant leap towards a more modern and accommodating athletic facility.
Collaboration remains a cornerstone of this endeavor, with ongoing coordination between the district, architects, and contractors. The teams are working diligently to finalize the fabrication details for the grandstands and press box, aiming for completion by spring 2024. This meticulous planning ensures that the upcoming installations align seamlessly with Baldwin UFSD’s vision for an upgraded and dynamic athletic complex.
Bathroom Renovations
Renovations of the bathrooms at High School, Meadow School, Steel School, and Plaza School are nearing completion (approximately 95%). Bathrooms should be fully operational by Thanksgiving break.
Middle School – A/C and Heat Roof Top Unit’s
The final stages of the rooftop air conditioning/heating units’ installation at Baldwin Middle School are currently underway as the units get connected to the district’s advanced building management system. This project represents a significant enhancement in overall climate control within the building and contributes to a more conducive learning and working environment for students and staff.
Middle School Auditorium
The district is proud to share that the middle school has fully completed the installation of state-of-the-art auditorium seating. The upgraded seating and flooring aim to enhance the overall experience for students, faculty, and community members during school events and community gatherings. The improvements contribute positively to cultural and educational experiences, marking a major milestone towards providing a state-of-the-art auditorium for our middle school students.
Steele Elementary School Elevator
The Steele School Elevator project has reached 95% completion. The installation of the elevator “car” itself is currently being assembled within the designated shaft and should be finalized immediately following Thanksgiving break. In addition, the Facilities department is actively engaged in external improvements to enhance the overall functionality and aesthetics of the structure. This includes addressing needed asphalt repairs and cleaning up the surrounding area, ensuring a seamless integration of the new elevator into the school's environment.
Sound Studio
Baldwin High School@Shubert's newly built sound studio is nearing completion, with state-of-the-art equipment being installed in the control room and shelves being built for equipment storage. The final stages of painting are also underway to create an inspiring environment for creativity and innovation. The sound studio is a significant addition to the educational facilities, providing students with hands-on experience in sound production. Collaborative efforts have brought the project to this point, from planning to construction and installation.
Middle School Wellness Center
The construction of the Wellness Center at Baldwin Middle School is set to be completed by Thanksgiving. Throughout its final phase, the district has been meticulously focused on ensuring that the facility is a welcoming and supportive environment for all who need to utilize its services.

REDESIGNED CLASSROOMS AND LEARNING SPACES
Baldwin Union Free School District continues to lead the way in innovative classroom redesign. Each year, the district aims to transform a number of rooms into a conducive learning space for the 21st Century learner. Last year, the high school saw the transformation of the pre-dated library into a state-of-the-art multipurpose learning space for students, faculty and staff to utilize, dubbed The Learning Collaboratory.
New Sound Studio: "One Flight Up"
The sound studio represents just one of the many initiatives at Baldwin Schools aimed at nurturing the talents and aspirations of our students. We look forward to seeing the incredible projects and creative endeavors that will emerge from "One Flight Up" in the years to come.
At Baldwin Schools, we believe in empowering our students to reach for the stars, and "One Flight Up" is a testament to that belief. We are excited to witness the incredible talent and innovation that will flow from this newly created sound studio. As we continue to invest in the future of our students, we are proud to provide them with a space where they can soar to new heights in the world of sound and music.
