Mrs. Elaine Monahan

Hello! I am Mrs. Monahan, one of the  Reading Teachers at Brookside Elementary School.  I began preparing for my teaching career as an undergrad where I majored in Early Childhood Education, with a minor in Science.  Shortly, thereafter, I  earned my Master's Degree in Reading Diagnosis and Remediation.  Looking to further my ability to remediate students who struggle with reading, I became a certified Reading Recovery Teacher, which led me to compete my Sixth Year Certificate in Supervision and Administration.  I began my teaching career 20 years ago in Borough Park, Brooklyn, New York, and have served as a general education teacher in grades K, 1, 2, and 3.  I was an active Reading Recovery Teacher for a number of years, before I returned to the classroom as the general education teacher in an inclusive classroom setting in both Kindergarten and Grade One.  I have been part of the Brookside  family for about eight years, and have delivered Academic Intervention Services in Reading to all grades.  Currently, I am happily servicing Grades One and Four, where I am blending the practices of both Reading Recovery and Fountas and Pinnell's Leveled Literacy Intervention Program.
