Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to 1R with Ms. Plotke and Ms. Brody!
About the Course:
Ninth grade social studies is the first half of a two-year course which examines Global History and Geography chronologically. Our curriculum focuses on the history of civilization starting from the beginning of man to the colonization of the Americas and the development of transoceanic trade routes. We will also discuss current events as they relate to the curriculum and the world we live in today. We will study important historical, geographic, political and economic characteristics of the societies that developed in each region of the world. Our curriculum covers the six major themes of Global History: cultural diffusion, trade, migrations, belief systems, conflict, and the establishment of multi-regional empires, as well as the major events and turning points in history. These themes are supported by the emphasis on developing analysis skills through the use of primary source documents, secondary sources. This course fulfills the first half of a two-year sequence. Students are required to take the New York State Regents Examination at the end of Global History and Geography 10.
