I am so excited to be teaching third grade again this year after having taught second grade for many years. I began my teaching career at Steele School on September 11, 1986. I taught 4th grade my first year and was fortunate enough to be asked to teach 2nd grade the following year. I continued as a second grade teacher until a few years when I was asked me to switch to third grade. I gladly accepted and found teaching third grade to be a wonderful and welcome change.
On a personal note, I grew up on Long Island in the town right next door. I lived in Rockville Centre right up until I was married. My husband and I lived in Long Beach for a bit until we settled in Seaford where we still live with our 3 children and our beloved little dog, Lily. Lauren is my oldest child. She is finishing up her degree in Event Management and is planning a big move to Florida. Danny is in the middle. He is a senior at SUNY Maritime studying electrical engineering and playing lacrosse. My youngest child,John, recently finished a 2 year program at Bauman College in Berkeley, California studying holistic nutrition. He will begin studying psychology at Nassau Community College this September. It seems like only yesterday they were in 3rd grade themselves!
As I start my 33th year here at Steele, I am as excited as if it was my very first one. Fortunately, I don’t get nervous anymore. Instead, I just get excited! I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know all of my students and families. We have many new programs and some great old ones that we will start digging into right away.
Welcome to Third Grade! I know we are going to have a fabulous year!
