Message from the Principal: Selecting Your Courses
Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to the 2023-24 scheduling season! One of our goals as a learning community is to ensure that you, our students, have all the resources needed to make educated choices about your academic career. We are excited to be furthering the desire of our District to innovate with the implementation of a block scheduling model that we call, The Bruins Flex Model. This model will afford learning to be more student-centered and applicable to developing the skills you need leading to 2035 and beyond. This Course Offering Book, or COB, will give you all the information that you require to make informed choices about what academic discipline you choose to pursue as well as determining which courses, including electives, you should take to ensure that you meet State requirements while also addressing your individual needs and interests. In order to do this, it is imperative that you carefully read the sections entitled Academic Information, and The Bruins Flex Model. These sections will provide you with a clear picture of current local and State graduation requirements, and how our new scheduling format will impact your school experience.
Please keep in mind that conversing and collaborating with your family, teachers, and school counselors will help you to make the best choice for your academic future. Three things should guide your decision-making: your interests, graduation requirements, and your post-secondary aspirations. I strongly encourage you to challenge yourself intellectually and to step outside of your comfort zone by taking rigorous courses. Think about your passions and raise the bar for yourself in these academic areas. There is no limit to your potential here at Baldwin High School and beyond! I wish you good luck as you begin to work on your 2023-24 program!
Warmly,
Dr. Neil J. Testa
Principal
