Baldwin High School Student Among Finalists for BroadwayWorld’s Student Reporter Award
Baldwin High School senior, Fahiem Jenkins, was selected as a finalist in the Student Reporter Program—a prestigious opportunity that recognizes excellence in journalism. Presented by BroadwayWorld, if selected, the winner will appear as the co-host for The Roger Rees Awards Pre-Show, as well as be invited to represent the Greater New York Region in The Jimmy Awards® national student reporter search.
As a finalist, Fahiem was invited to participate in an exclusive online masterclass followed by a virtual press conference featuring cast members from a current Broadway show in February. The event connected student reporters directly with professionals working in the entertainment industry. The masterclass was led by BroadwayWorld Editor-in-Chief Nicole Rosky and Managing Editor Chloe Rabinowitz, who guided finalists through the fundamentals of entertainment journalism. During the session, students learned about news reporting techniques, effective interviewing strategies, and key insights for young journalists interested in pursuing careers in media and the arts.
The experience also prepared students for the virtual press conference, where Fahiem and fellow finalists interacted with Broadway performers and asked questions about their work on stage. The insights gained during the event helped students develop a feature story as part of the program’s finalist assignment.
Overall, the Roger Rees Awards Student Reporter Program provided finalists with a unique, real-world experience that combined journalism, theater, and professional mentorship, regardless of the outcome.
