Artificial Intelligence Essentials for Educators Instructor: Ed Murray When: Thursday, October 10, 2024; Thursday, October 17, 2024; Thursday, October 24, 2024; Thursday, November 7, 2024; Thursday, November 14, 2024 4:30pm-7:30pm Where: Online (link will be sent to participants) Description: Generative artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to support teachers design learning activities, resources, and draft student feedback. During this in-service course, teachers will gain a foundational understanding of AI’s principles, ethical dimensions, and its collaborative power to innovate learning experiences. Teachers will learn how to utilize AI chatbots and assistants integrated within instructional technologies to produce a variety of learning materials, draft individualized student feedback, and analyze educational data for informed decision-making.
Implementing Social and Emotional Learning in Our Everyday Teaching Instructor: Lauren Jarmel When: Friday, October 25, 2024; Friday, November 1, 2024; Friday, November 8, 2024; Friday, November 15, 2024; Friday, November 22, 2024 4:30-7:30 pm Where: Online (link will be sent to participants) Description: This course will provide teachers with practical strategies for teaching Social Emotional Learning (SEL) within the classroom. Teachers will explore and learn about the value of engaging in SEL activities to help improve the human connection between teachers and students. Through the course, teachers will learn about the “CASEL Wheel” which will enable them to help develop the framework necessary to cultivate skills and an environment that advances students’ learning and development. This course will provide teachers with the skills to facilitate students through mindfulness activities that will help to combat stress and anxiety while giving students a safe space to understand their emotions and strengthen peer to peer communication and relationships. The skills learned in this course will enable teachers to help strengthen the 5 competencies of CASEL for each student. A socially and emotionally connected class results in a positive educational experience for the students, and a great teaching experience for educators.
Implementing Thinking Routines into Our Everyday Teaching Instructor: Jaclyn Cerciello When: Tuesday, October 22, 2024; Tuesday, October 29, 2024; Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Tuesday, November 19, 2024; Tuesday, November 26, 2024- 6:00 pm-9:00 pm Where: Online (link will be sent to participants) Description: This course will provide teachers with a deep understanding of the educational benefits of implementing thinking routines as a learning tool across all content areas. Teachers will explore currently used thinking routines as well as create their own. This course will enable teachers to discuss the effectiveness of making thinking and learning visible through the use of thinking routines. They will understand the value of using thinking routines as an assessment tool. Teachers will have the opportunity to collaborate with other course members to create, implement and reflect upon thinking routines and student success while using them. Lastly, this course will enable teachers to explore and navigate through the Harvard Project Zero Thinking Routine Toolbox to use as a resource within the course and for years to come in the classroom.
