Baldwin Herald Highlights Anthony Mignella

Anthony Mignella has officially stepped into the role of superintendent of the Baldwin school district, succeeding Shari Camhi, who retired this summer after more than a decade of leadership.

For Mignella, 50, the appointment is the culmination of a career that began in the classroom more than 25 years ago. Originally from Bayside, Queens, he earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Stony Brook University and a master’s in education from Long Island University’s C.W. Post campus. He later completed an advanced graduate certificate in educational administration at Stony Brook and participated in the Strategic Data Project at Harvard University’s Center for Education Policy Research, where he developed skills in data-driven decision-making to improve student outcomes. Before his appointment, he served as Baldwin’s assistant superintendent for instruction for nine years.

“When I first started teaching, I never saw myself necessarily becoming an administrator,” Mignella said in an interview with the Herald. “It was always about working with students and other teachers and trying to create a culture of care and respect. That passion has stayed with me. I was very fortunate to have some doors open, and now being here as superintendent is really a magical experience and a dream come true.”
