Baldwin High School Featured in the Baldwin Herald

Baldwin High School hosted its inaugural “Go Live! Day” in February, bringing together high school students in the News, Media and Film Academy and middle school students in related pre-academies for a hands-on look at careers in journalism, broadcasting and public relations.

Students rotated through three interactive workshops led by industry professionals, exploring skills such as on-camera reporting, storytelling and media production. ABC7 Eyewitness News reporter and Baldwin alum Chantee Lans, joined by her camera operator, demonstrated how news stories are developed and delivered, including a look inside a news truck and its equipment.

Bill Corbett Jr., president of Corbett Public Relations, introduced students to careers in public relations and strategic communication, focusing on messaging and media strategy. Hofstra University professor Zachary Dowdy also spoke about college journalism programs and career pathways in media.

“Go Live! Day was more than a series of workshops — it offered students a glimpse into the real-world applications of communication, storytelling and media production,” said Gabriella Franza, assistant director of instructional programs. “By linking classroom learning with industry expertise, Baldwin High School inspired students to explore their interests, build confidence, and envision future careers in media and beyond.”
