Baldwin High School Hosts 93rd Annual Sportsnite

Baldwin High School Hosts 93rd Annual Sportsnite

Gold Team Triumphs in This Year’s Events

Baldwin High School celebrated its 93rd Annual Sportsnite this March, upholding a cherished tradition brimming with spirited competition, creativity, and teamwork. After an exhilarating evening of performances, the Gold Team emerged victorious over the Blue Team with a final score of 29–22.

In the months leading up to Sportsnite, students collaborate in diverse areas such as art, dance, stunts, choreography, writing, singing, and event planning. This experience unites students from all four grades at Baldwin High School, providing seniors the chance to mentor underclassmen and strengthen connections within the school community.

Each team crafts a unique theme to guide their performances. This year, the Blue Team, led by Captain Jamila Bennett, presented “Blue’s Got Talent,” with the Entrance Song and Cheer Kamilah Santesteban. Meanwhile, the Gold Team, led by Captain Lyra Gilling, showcased their theme “The Golden Palace,” with Briya Narcisse as the Entrance Song and Cheer.

The weeklong celebration of Sportsweek featured several beloved traditions that led up to the culminating event. After months of rehearsals and preparation, both teams collaborated to design and execute elaborate routines that displayed creativity, dedication, and school spirit.

A line from this year’s Sportsnite program encapsulated the event's spirit: “Two teams, one night. All heart.”

This year’s Sportsnite was organized by Kathryn Thiel, who supported students throughout the planning and rehearsal stages. In addition, Melissa Watts served as the musical director for both teams.

“All Sportsnite members did an extraordinary job this year. They demonstrated tremendous effort and teamwork in building their themes from the ground up to create remarkable performances,” expressed Ms. Thiel. “I am incredibly proud of both the Blue and Gold teams.”

The tradition began 93 years ago when Ethel T. Kloberg, Baldwin High School’s physical education supervisor, established Sportsnite to foster female empowerment during a time when opportunities for girls in athletics were scarce. Today, Sportsnite celebrates leadership, creativity, and collaboration among young women while honoring the legacy of those who paved the way.

While the evening concludes with a winning team, it is the friendships, leadership skills, and memories forged throughout the months of preparation that truly define the Sportsnite experience. Go Blue and Gold!
