Baldwin High School Students Excel in Stock Market Challenge

Baldwin High School Students Excel in Stock Market Challenge

Jackson Roberts, Donato Salerno, Ojas Taneja, and Isaiah Vielot Advance to Regional Competition

Baldwin High School students in Mr. Gregg Kelley's College-Level Personal Finance class recently demonstrated their financial literacy skills in Junior Achievement's prestigious Stock Market Challenge. The competition provided an opportunity for students to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world application.

The Stock Market Challenge features a live simulation environment where students apply their classroom knowledge to authentic market scenarios. Junior Achievement enhanced the experience by bringing in a professional volunteer who facilitated the high-energy competitions centered around a fictional marketplace, creating an engaging and realistic trading atmosphere. Students formed strategic teams to compete in this intensive challenge, showcasing their understanding of market principles and investment strategies.

The Baldwin High School teams gave an exceptional performance in this year’s competition, with one of the teams securing their spot in the Regional Competition, which is set to occur at Hofstra University in March. The victorious team is made up of team leader Isaiah Vielot, along with team members, Jackson Roberts, Donato Salerno, and Ojas Taneja.

Their teacher, Mr. Kelley, was especially proud of this year’s outcome. “The Stock Market Challenge represents more than just a competition—it's a transformative educational experience that prepares students for future financial decision-making and career opportunities in the business world,” said Mr. Kelley, whose class has been participating in the competition for the past two years, demonstrating the important role that experiential learning plays in the class.

The continued participation reflects the Baldwin Union Free School District’s dedication to providing students with hands-on learning opportunities to develop essential skills that will serve them throughout their lives, and in this case, financial literacy.

“Congratulations to Jackson, Donato, Ojas, and Isaiah on advancing to the Regional Competition, and congratulations to all of this year’s participants from our class for their outstanding efforts,” said Mr. Kelley.
