Baldwin High School Students Participate in 2026 NYSABPRHAL Youth Summit in Albany

Students Engage with State Leaders, Explore Civic Issues, and Strengthen Future Ready Competencies through a Hands-on Government Experience

Eight Baldwin High School students were recently invited to Albany with their principal, Dr. Neil Testa, to participate in the Youth Summit at the New York State Association of Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislators (NYSABPRHAL)’s 55th Annual Legislative Conference. The exclusive learning excursion was designed to strengthen civic engagement, student leadership, and future-ready skills among New York’s youth.

The experience was extended to the Baldwin Union Free School District through New York State Senator Siela Bynoe’s Office and included Lexie Ellis, grade 11; Zion Henry, grade 12; Morgan Jackson, grade 12; Nicholas Perez, grade 12; Mia Randazzo, grade 12; Shayanne Resil, grade 11; and Adrian Suriel, grade 10. During the Youth Summit, students toured the New York State Capitol, visited the Senate Chambers, and met with Senator Bynoe to discuss important issues affecting the Baldwin community. The “Leaving2Learn” aligned closely with Baldwin Union Free School District’s Future Ready Competencies, helping students develop such essential skills as communication, collaboration, and civics.

“It was an incredible experience for our students to see government in action, and we’re thankful to Senator Bynoe for the opportunity,” said Dr. Neil Testa, Principal of Baldwin High School. “Personally, it meant a lot to spend that time with such an outstanding group of students not just as their principal but sharing a really special experience together.”

Baldwin High School students left their state’s capital with a meaningful understanding of the legislative process, inspired to become active participants in their communities and future leaders.
