Students Attend Regional Conference Focused on Leadership and Student Empowerment

This year’s Long Island Leaders of Tomorrow Conference, in collaboration with Nassau BOCES, was attended by a total of 143 students from 16 districts across Nassau and Suffolk counties gathered for the event. Participating districts included Baldwin, Bellmore-Merrick, East Williston, Glen Cove, Great Neck, Herricks, Hewlett-Woodmere, Hicksville, Locust Valley, Long Beach, Malverne, North Babylon, Plainview-Old Bethpage, Syosset, Valley Stream, and Westbury. Held at Hofstra University, students engaged in meaningful discussions and activities designed to amplify social justice and student empowerment across Long Island.

Students Sade McLean, Chimmunya Okigbo, Bruce Revels III, and Amelia Sadloo represented Baldwin High School for this year’s conference. Throughout the day, they participated in critical dialogue on issues impacting Long Island, including racism, equity, inclusion, leadership, and student agency. They also collaborated with peers from across the region, took part in breakout sessions, and developed actionable steps to foster positive change within their school community.

The empowering “Leaving2Learn” is part of Baldwin Union Free School District’s School2Career curriculum.
