Students Learn about Various Professions Through Series of Events

Baldwin Middle School brought career exploration to life during its annual College and Career Symposium in March. The week-long event offered students meaningful opportunities to engage with professionals, learn about future pathways, and connect classroom learning to real-world experiences. Ms. Corinne Tumbarello, assistant principal for guidance, along with the guidance department played an instrumental role in making the events a huge success.

“College and Career Week was a powerful experience for our middle school students,” stated Ms. Tumbarello. “They were genuinely engaged and inspired by the opportunity to hear directly from community members about their career journeys. Exposure to such a wide range of professions helped students broaden their perspectives, ask thoughtful questions, and begin imagining their own futures with greater confidence and curiosity.”

On Thursday, March 19th, the school hosted its Career Symposium in the commons, where community members representing a wide range of professions shared hands-on insights into their careers. Students rotated through stations during their lunch periods, engaging in conversations, asking questions, and participating in interactive activities designed to spark curiosity. A college representative was also present, providing valuable information about college life and the enrollment process, helping students begin to envision their academic futures.

The following day focused on Career Day for 7th grade students. A diverse group of presenters, including several Baldwin alumni, spoke about their personal journeys, highlighting the steps, challenges, and decisions that led them to their current careers. Students gained a deeper understanding of educational requirements and career pathways while being encouraged to reflect on their own aspirations.

The impact of the event was evident in student feedback. Seventh grader Aiden Saunders shared, “The event was inspiring in many different ways; the musical part and the hard-working aspect.”

Overall, the symposium provided an engaging and inspiring experience, empowering students to explore a wide range of career possibilities and begin thinking about their futures with excitement and confidence.
