Baldwin Schools Celebrate National Fire Prevention Month

Baldwin Schools Celebrate National Fire Prevention Month

From Exploring Fire Trucks to Expressing Gratitude to Firefighters, a Range of Activities Held

October has been named national Fire Prevention Month with Fire Prevention Week taking place Oct. 5, 2025 – Oct. 11. The awareness dates help raise awareness about fire safety awareness and ensure homes and families are protected. Schools across Baldwin Union Free School District celebrated this important awareness week by promoting fire safety methods and educating students and families through various activities.

During a PTA-sponsored event, the elementary schools welcomed the Baldwin Fire Department to help educate students, K-2, on fire safety. The Ladder 2 firefighters presented on fire safety, from checking smoke detectors throughout the year to knowing the simple fire safety mnemonic device: “stop, drop and roll.” Students each received their very own firefighter helmet and a packet with crayons and a coloring book featuring safety tips to help practice fire prevention at home.

In addition, students at Brookside Elementary School expressed their gratitude for the courageous volunteer firefighters across Long Island by crafting heartfelt thank-you cards as part of the Town of Hempstead’s “Cards for Firefighters” program. Councilwoman Laura Ryder visited the school to collect the cards and to thank the students and staff for their support!
