Excerpt from article:

From building solar-powered robots to experimenting with wind turbines, Baldwin students recently got a firsthand look at the power of innovation during the STEM X Festival at the Cradle of Aviation Museum.

Thirty students from Baldwin High School’s STEM & Engineering Academy and Baldwin Middle School’s Code & Circuits Pre-Academy participated in the event, held in collaboration with National Grid and Morrison Mentors. The festival brought together students from across Long Island to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through engaging, hands-on activities.

Throughout the day, Baldwin students rotated through interactive stations featuring Rover Robots, drones, virtual reality headsets, circuits, LEGOs, and solar-powered cars. They also watched the IMAX short film *Cities of the Future*, which explored sustainable urban design and how STEM innovations will shape the cities of tomorrow.

Teachers Rebecca Seepersad, Francesco Iannucci, and Dan Baxt — who also serves as the district’s School2Career coach — accompanied the students as part of Baldwin’s Leaving2Learn program, which connects classroom lessons to real-world applications.

“Events like the STEM X Festival at the Cradle of Aviation, in connection with the STEAM Academy, spark curiosity by showing students the real-world impact of science, technology, engineering, and math,” said Gabriella Franza, assistant director of instructional programs. “When students see how learning connects to exciting careers, they’re inspired to dream bigger and innovate boldly.”

Assemblywoman Judy Griffin, who attended the festival, praised the students and educators for their engagement.

“I was grateful for the opportunity to join Baldwin’s STEM & Engineering Academy and Code & Circuits students at the incredible STEM X Festival at the Cradle of Aviation,” she wrote to the Herald. “Observing our students enthusiastically participate in innovative activities like building solar-powered robots, experimenting with wind turbines, exploring drones and virtual reality, and engaging with the IMAX film Cities of the Future was truly inspiring.”
