Baldwin UFSD Hosts Annual MLK Jr. Poster Contest and Reception

Student Artwork Displayed Throughout Black History Month at District Office

Select fourth graders from Baldwin Union Free School District’s elementary schools were recently honored at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Poster Contest and Reception for their posters, which ranged from hand-drawn artwork to computer-generated graphics. This long-standing tradition, initiated by the Concerned Parents of Baldwin and now organized by the Fine & Performing Arts Department, centers on the theme of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life of service.

Every year, the winners from each fourth-grade class are chosen by their school principals and art teachers based on their creativity and the messages conveyed through their artwork. During the reception, the young artists receive certificates in recognition of their achievement. Families and staff in attendance are then invited for the initial viewing of the posters, which currently line the main hallway of the District Office.

In observance of Black History Month, the students’ posters will remain prominently displayed at the District Office throughout the month of February in tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
