Southern Tier Offers Insights into New Path for New York State Education

Public education in New York state is changing, and Southern Tier educators on the frontlines of the policy shift have insights into the process.

Four school districts from across the state that are participating in New York State Education Department’s Performance-Based Learning and Assessment Networks (PLAN) Pilot program shared their experiences during a panel discussion March 5 in Binghamton.

The PLAN Pilot program comes ahead of the NY Inspires initiative, which will be implemented statewide in phases. Starting with the 2027-28 school year, all public schools will award one high school diploma based on new credit requirements. PLAN pilot schools  including Binghamton, Johnson City, Waverly and Wellsville in the Southern Tier  are adopting learning models aligned with New York Inspires.
