Plaza Elementary School Students Take Flight Through Aviation-Themed Learning

Plaza Elementary School celebrated a year of innovation, exploration and discovery through its aviation-themed learning initiative, building on the school's rich history of flight while connecting hands-on experiences to the district's Future Ready Competencies. Throughout the year, students explored the science and wonder of aviation in various ways—from designing and testing toy airplanes and piloting drones to studying how wing shapes, weather and animal adaptations make flight possible. The curriculum culminated in the creation of Plaza's first-ever Storybook Time Capsule, a digital keepsake documenting the year's projects.

Most recently, in line with this year's aviation theme, Plaza's Team ORCHID, the school’s journalism club, covered the history of the Baldwin Pilot Shop. Once one of the only pilot shops of its kind on this side of the globe, the store played a unique role in the community’s aviation legacy.
