Cornell University Cooperative Extension for Nassau County Accepts Submissions by Students Rose Altschuler, Lukas Duet, and Isabella Aparicio Romero

Baldwin High School students, Rose Altschuler, Lukas Duet, and Isabella Aparicio Romero, recently had their work accepted for the 2025 Long Island Gardening Guide and Calendar published by Cornell University Cooperative Extension (CCE) for Nassau County. In addition, they each received a certificate of recognition from the CCE.

“We take immense pride in the accomplishments of these students. When talent is coupled with diligent effort and support from teachers, and such recognition is attained, it is truly extraordinary,” remarked Mr. Andre Poprilo, Director of Fine and Performing Arts for the Baldwin Union Free School District. “We are thrilled that they will have the opportunity to showcase their artwork to audiences across Long Island through this calendar.”

CCE’s annual competition is open to students, grades K-12. More than 100 entries from students in all grades across Nassau County. Submissions had to be created using a traditional medium, such as oil pastel, chalk pastel, acrylic, tempera, oil paint, watercolor, gouache, printmaking, or colored pencil. Professional artists then judged the artwork.

The 2025 CCE Nassau Gardening Calendar and Guide is available for purchase through their website. In addition to the artwork of students, the calendar features helpful and informative gardening tips.
