Baldwin High School Marksmanship Team Honored
Students Named All Conference, All County and Team Receives Sportsmanship Award
The Baldwin Union Free School District is proud to announce the outstanding achievements of its rifle team and its dedicated members. This year, Baldwin High School junior Soren York has been recognized as All Conference, while senior and four-year varsity shooter, Safiya Allie, has earned the prestigious All County title. She was also her team’s MVP.
Under the expert guidance of Coach Michael Palumbo, who has been with Baldwin UFSD since 1996 and the varsity marksmanship coach since 2005, the rifle team has achieved remarkable success. Mr. Palumbo, who also teaches science at Baldwin High School, has been named Coach of the Year by the Nassau County Coaches Association. For almost two decades of coaching, he has dedicated himself to enhancing the team's shooting precision and technique, while also fostering teamwork and friendships among the players.
In addition to individual accolades, the rifle team was honored with the Charlie Tacke Team Sportsmanship Award for the fourth consecutive year, a testament to their dedication to fair play and camaraderie. This achievement highlights the positive culture and values that Mr. Palumbo has instilled in his team.
"Congratulations to all team members and Coach Palumbo for their incredible accomplishments and for representing Baldwin UFSD with excellence and integrity,” said Dr. Neil Testa, principal of Baldwin High School.
