Baldwin Students Donate Their Artwork to Long Island Courthouses

Baldwin Students Donate Their Artwork to Long Island Courthouses

School2Career Initiative Promotes Kindness and Mindfulness Through the Arts

Baldwin students have generously donated their artwork, including paintings and photographs, to the Nassau County and Suffolk County Family Courts. The initiative aims to promote kindness and mindfulness, aligning with the district’s focus on “civics“ and emphasis on "students as producers" to help create meaningful learning experiences. Now a Baldwin tradition, the students’ paintings, drawings, and photography will add to the artwork that was donated last year by the district’s young artists to courthouses across the island. This year, the effort was expanded to include middle and elementary schools.

At a ceremony in the high school's "Learning Collaboratory," the artwork was displayed for Baldwin administrators and families before being installed in local courthouses. Over 20 representatives, including judges from both counties, attended the unveiling, impressed by the art and its mission.

Dr. Gabriella Franza, Assistant Director of Instructional Programs, remarked on the honor of seeing students create and donate art to benefit the community. The project, Mindfulness Through Art, initially collaborated with hospitals to use art as a healing tool. She then though to expand this impactful project to Long Island courthouses.

“It’s been an incredible honor to be part of the Mindfulness Through Art program and to see our students create and donate artwork that gives back to the community,” said Dr. Franza following the event. “Using art as a healing tool is at the heart of this project to help bring hope and comfort to those navigating difficult times.”

Art teachers, including Andrew Campbell, Jamie Delatorre, Patti Drexler, Nicole Ferraro, Meredith Healy-Kurz, Regina Hopkins, Kelly Iovine, Stephanie Kaltsas, Michelle Liemer-Kelly, Lyne Molinari, Micha Proietto, Nicole Rubin, Amanda Sirchia and Carolyn Vota, were instrumental in the project's success. Mr. Andre Poprilo, Director of Fine and Performing Arts, highlighted the initiative's role in offering aesthetic moments to court visitors.

The initiative was captured by News 12.
