Baldwin High School Students Participate in Adelphi University’s Annual Apprentice Challenge
Global Business Academy Compete in Annual Business Competition
Students from Baldwin High School’s Global Business & Entrepreneurship Academy recently showcased their talents at the 2024 Apprentice Challenge hosted by Adelphi University. Since its inception in 2007, this annual competition has gathered ambitious high school students in grades 9-12 from across Long Island, allowing up to ten students from each school to participate. The team that devises the most effective marketing plan within just one hour is honored with the title of Adelphi Apprentice. This year, more than 200 students formed mixed teams to compete. Among the ten participants from Baldwin High School, Morgan Jackson's team advanced to the final round.
“The Apprentice Challenge at Adelphi University encourages our students to step outside their comfort zones by collaborating with peers from other Long Island high schools,” said Mr. Gregg Kelley, a business teacher at Baldwin High School. “As always, our students did a spectacular job and made us proud.”
Adelphi’s Apprentice Challenge is part of the Annual High School Special Event Series, offering students a chance to push their limits while working alongside expert business faculty and marketing professionals. The competition serves as an excellent platform for participants to grasp essential marketing concepts, including the four P's, and learn how to create a successful marketing plan. Teams then apply their newfound skills to collaborate effectively, culminating in the development of a marketing strategy based on a sample case assignment typically related to a local Long Island business. Their plans are presented to a distinguished panel of judges, with the top plan earning the prestigious title of "Adelphi Apprentice."
This year the Sponsor for the Apprentice Challenge was Metropolitan Golf Association. The students were tasked with developing a plan increasing women's participation in golf and bringing more diversity and inclusivity to the sport. The students developed new programs and initiatives aimed at attracting women from all backgrounds.
