Baldwin Orchestra Musicians Selected for Highly Competitive LISFA Festival
Six Students Chosen Based on Teacher Recommendations and NYSSMA Scores
For this year’s Long Island String Festival Association’s annual festival, six Baldwin student-musicians were chosen to participate. Baldwin High School students, violinists Brianna Horneck and Ethan Questelles and violist Benjamin Mason, were selected alongside Baldwin Middle School violinist Lily Nelson and violist Xavier Ugbala and Plaza Elementary School violinist Ethan Biazon. They were invited to take part in rehearsals, collaborating with a skilled guest conductor to prepare for a public performance along with other chosen students from across Long Island.
Participation in the LISFA Festivals is similar to the All-County Festival, but with the key difference being LISFA is dedicated solely to orchestral strings. Students from orchestras throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties are selected based on recommendations from their teachers and performance scores from the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA).
“Please join me in acknowledging the exceptional student musicians who participated in the Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA) for the 2024-2025 academic year,” stated André Poprilo, Director of Fine and Performing Arts for the Baldwin Union Free School District. “This speaks to the level of dedication of both our students and our educators, who are committed to advancing our students’ musical skills.”
Founded in 1956, LISFA's strength comes from string teachers, talented students, supportive parents, and quality conductors celebrating music's power. LISFA is proud to be affiliated with the Nassau Music Educators Association (NMEA), which recognized 51 Baldwin students this year. Visit the LIFSA website to learn more.
