Baldwin UFSD Unveils State-of-the-Art Sound Studio, "One Flight Up"

Baldwin UFSD Unveils State-of-the-Art Sound Studio, "One Flight Up"

Students at Baldwin High School@Shubert Gain Experience with Future Careers in Music, Sound Engineering and More!

In a remarkable stride toward enhancing educational experiences, Baldwin Union Free School District (UFSD) has launched another innovative resource. "One Flight Up," a cutting-edge sound studio at Baldwin High School@Shubert, offers a unique opportunity for students to engage in real-world learning relevant to careers in music recording, sound engineering, podcasting, and more. By mirroring professional studios, "One Flight Up" enables students to participate in hands-on educational experiences without needing to leave the district.

The motivation behind adding the sound studio lies in Baldwin UFSD’s dedication to immersing students in practical, career-oriented learning experiences. Superintendent Dr. Shari Camhi articulates this vision, emphasizing that the new space and curriculum align with the district’s mission of ensuring every student graduates "future ready."

"One Flight Up" emulates the professional studios used in the industry, affording students a genuine feel of working environments they may encounter in their future professions. The sound studio is equipped with a control room, a music room, a vocal booth, and advanced podcasting technology, making Baldwin UFSD one of the few districts to offer such an authentic onsite educational experience.

To help with the curriculum, the district has partnered with MusicBreeds to help design the courses associated with the new space, while Olivia Lattore from the organization helps teach the classes along with Baldwin teacher, Michael Autero.

Looking ahead, the district envisions exploring additional ways to utilize this resource, potentially inviting students from other schools within the district. The possibilities extend beyond music, with aspirations to integrate the sound studio technology into other subject areas.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Thursday, March 27, where attendees had the opportunity to tour the sound studio. During the speeches, this milestone did not go unnoticed, as the district received citations from Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé, Senator Siela Bynoe, and Assemblywoman Judy Griffin. The event was covered by News 12 Long Island.

As Baldwin UFSD continues to innovate, "One Flight Up" stands as a testament to the district’s commitment to creating future-focused opportunities for all students.
