Lenox Elementary School Third Grader Named 1 of 5 Winners Nationwide in Scholastic Competition

Lenox Elementary School Third Grader Named 1 of 5 Winners Nationwide in Scholastic Competition

Ameera Khan Wins Dragon Masters Contest with Story Submission

Lenox Elementary School third grader, Ameera Khan, has recently been recognized as one of five national winners in Scholastic's Dragon Masters Contest. The contest is based on the Dragon Masters book series by Tracey West.

Ameera’s fiction story submission, "Jewel of the Sand Dragon," exemplifies a deep understanding of the text, showcasing her ability to create a well-structured and captivating response. Scholastic received hundreds of entries for each of their magazine's contests, and winning pieces must reflect critical reading skills through a challenging writing task. The publishing company also acknowledged that the winners demonstrate a commitment to excellence that reflects the quality of classroom enrichment supported by educators like her teacher, Ms. Carolyn McGillicuddy.

The winners received a personalized letter of recognition as well as a copy of the book, "The Epic Gude to Dragon Masters" by Tracey West.

“Ameera’s achievement is a beautiful reminder of the joy that comes from reading, writing, and imagination,” said Dr. Sheilah Jefferson-Isaac, principal of Lenox Elementary School. “We are so proud of her and grateful for the teachers who nurture a love of learning every day."
