Nassau County Comptroller Honors Baldwin High School Junior
Gavin Sparks Awarded Certificate of Recognition in Math, Accounting, and Finance
Baldwin High School junior, Gavin Sparks, was awarded a “Certificate of Recognition in Math, Accounting, and Finance” from Nassau County Comptroller, Elaine Phillips, for his hard work and academic achievements. The award recognizes outstanding Nassau County high school juniors and seniors who have strong academic records and have demonstrated a personal interest in the three subject areas.
“Congratulations to Gavin Sparks on his recognition of his outstanding achievements as all around exceptional Baldwin High School students,” said Dr. Neil Testa, principal of Baldwin High School. “We are proud to see him among the Nassau County Comptroller award recipients and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
To be selected, students must be nominated by school faculty or administration and are required to submit an essay to the Office of the Nassau County Comptroller, expressing their interests in math, finance and accounting, and what their interests are for the future. Gavin was nominated by his school counselor, Meghan Schlosser.
Comptroller Phillips characterized the selected students as the future leaders, business owners, designers, problem solvers, and innovators of the world. Proficiency in math, accounting, and finance is critical for both government and private sectors. These skills are particularly vital for the Comptroller’s Office, which oversees Nassau County's finances, audits government departments, and ensures efficient and transparent government operations.
