U.S. News and World Report Recognizes District for Fifth Consecutive Year
Baldwin High School Among Best in the Nation

Baldwin Union Free School District is pleased to announce that for the fifth consecutive year Baldwin High School was among the “Best High Schools” in America, according to the U.S. News & World Report. Additionally, out of 1,279 ranked high schools in New York State, Baldwin High School ranked #286.

The U.S. News “Best High Schools” rankings include data on more than 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Of those schools, approximately 17,660 were ranked based on six factors focused on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college. The rankings encompass traditional high schools, as well as charter; magnet; and science, technology, engineering and math-focused schools.

According to U.S. News, the rankings are based on state education data collected from the 2020-21 school year and six indicators of school quality, including college readiness, reading and math proficiency, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rates.

College readiness, which counts for 30% of the overall score used to determine the school’s final ranking, specifically measures participation and performance on Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate exams. Of note, this percentage does not encompass dual enrollment or college-level courses that many high schools, including Baldwin, offer today.

Baldwin High School proudly boasts a graduation rate of 99%. Among the district’s most future-driven programs are the Academic Academies; the Nassau Community College/SUNY Nassau partnership; over 30 dual-enrollment (college-credit) courses; and “Senior Experience,” a robust senior internship course that integrates the English Language Arts (ELA) and social studies curricula, culminating with a capstone project and presentation. Educational leaders and dignitaries from across the nation, including representatives from the U.S. Department of Education, have toured the district to witness firsthand the success of the programs and high-quality instruction taking place in Baldwin schools.
