YCLC Compete in “Savings Bank Lights, Camera, Save!” Contest
Baldwin High School Student Diego Garcia Takes Home Third Place Prize
Baldwin High School’s Youth Change Leader Collaborative (YCLC) recently participated in the American Bankers Association (ABA) Foundation’s annual Lights, Camera, Save! video contest for the second year in a row. The annual competition gave students the chance to produce a video that showcases their financial knowledge and digital skills. This year, Diego Garcia won 3rd place and took home an Apple Watch as his prize.
“This accomplishment is an excellent example of how our students are excelling in both creative and professional endeavors,” said Dr. Gabriella Franza, assistant director of instructional programs for Baldwin Union Free School District. We take immense pride in their ongoing achievements. Congratulations to Diego Garcia!”
Through this annual competition, the ABA Foundation collaborates with local banks nationwide to empower teenagers to educate their peers about the importance of good money management. Secondary school students are encouraged to produce an innovative 30-second self-made video focused on responsible financial choices that resonate with their fellow teens. The videos need to be of high quality, as production value constitutes 30% of the judges' score. Topics included automatic savings, credit score, direct deposit, retirement and more.
After competing at the local level, the hosting bank submits their winning entry to the national contest for a chance to win one of three cash prizes, along with a grant for the winning school. The national winners' videos are then also showcased on YouTube and shared publicly as part of a nationwide financial education initiative.
The ABA Foundation, a 501(c)3, provides free programs and resources to help banks support the financial well-being of their customers and communities. Visit the ABA Foundation website to learn more about the organization and services.
