Meet Mr. Anthony Mignella
Innovative Educator, Dedicated Leader

Mr. Anthony Mignella serves as the Superintendent of Schools for the Baldwin Union Free School District, bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to his role. An extensive background in educational leadership, Mr. Mignella 's journey in education began over 25 years ago and has included a variety of transformative roles. Prior to his current position, he was Baldwin UFSD’s Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for nine years, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the district’s future-driven curriculum and enhancing student achievement.
Mr. Mignella 's educational philosophy centers on the belief that student success is deeply intertwined with addressing their emotional and social needs. His commitment to fostering a nurturing educational environment has been a guiding principle throughout his career. This philosophy was particularly evident during his tenure as principal of Memorial Junior High School in the Valley Stream Central High School District, where he was renowned for creating a caring school environment that bolstered both academic and personal growth among students.
Throughout his career, Mr. Mignella has been characterized by his passion for education and unwavering commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. His dedication to community engagement is evident through his efforts to maintain strong relationships with parents, educators, and students. Overall, his leadership continues to inspire students and educators alike, ensuring that Baldwin Union Free School District remains at the forefront of educational excellence.
Under Mr. Mignella 's guidance, the district has broadened its Advanced Placement (AP) course offerings and introduced the AP Capstone program, while also increasing the number of dual enrollment course offerings, showcasing its commitment to ensuring students graduate future ready. As a result, Baldwin High School has been recognized for two consecutive years as an AP Honor Roll school for enhancing college readiness and increasing student participation in AP classes. His efforts in improving math and science curricula and launching innovative programs, like the interdisciplinary STEAM initiative and algebra for all at the 8th-grade level have been particularly noteworthy. Beyond academics, Mr. Mignella introduced “Better World Day,” a program that encourages Baldwin Middle School students to engage in civics research projects, thereby fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Recognizing that teachers are the backbone to a school district, Mr. Mignella is also an advocate for professional development, helping to spearhead initiatives such as the New Teachers Cohort Program and regular professional learning sessions for Baldwin educators.
Mr. Mignella holds a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and an advanced graduate certificate in educational administration from Stony Brook University, along with a Master of Science in education from Long Island University, C.W. Post. To enhance his expertise, Mr. Mignella was invited to participate in the Strategic Data Project at Harvard University’s Center for Education Policy Research, which honed his skills in data-driven decision-making to improve educational outcomes. He has been recognized by K-12 Dive as a “Rising District Leader” and is an active member of the national School Superintendents Association (AASA) and will represent Baldwin Union Free School District in the League of Innovative Schools. Outside of Baldwin UFSD, he is a proud husband and father of three boys.
