Baldwin High School Students in Senior Internship Program Launch Sports Podcast
Weekly “Baldwin Bruins Sports Podcast” Goes Live
For their senior internship program, students, Yaw Bonsu and Tyler Brown, have launched a new weekly podcast for the district called, “Baldwin Bruins Sports Podcast,” covering Baldwin High School sports. The podcast, which is recorded on Fridays and edited on Saturdays, will include interviews with athletes and discussions about the past week’s games.
Both students drew inspiration from their Sports & Entertainment Marketing class last year. Once they were accepted into the Senior Internship program, they both brainstormed potential opportunities in the Sports Communication/Broadcasting field with their Business Teacher and Sr. Internship Coordinator, Mr. Gregg Kelley, until they came up with this idea of a weekly podcast specific to Baldwin athletics. If successful, Mr. Kelley hopes to continue the Baldwin Bruins Sports Podcast each year with new students in the Senior Internship Program, which provides the opportunity for students to pursue a one-credit independent, non-paid internship experience, linking their interests and preferences to career and research exploration. The high schoolers gain expert advice on the job search process and insight into jobs of the 21st Century while learning about a particular area of interest, in hopes of discovering the right college major and learning how to make the most of a workplace experience. In addition to the hands-on, on-the-job-site experience, these students learn research, resume writing, interview, and presentation skills.
Mr. Bonsu is Class of 2020 President and a Varsity Soccer player, while Mr. Brown is Class of 2020 Secretary and an avid sports fan.
