Baldwin High School Teacher Named Outstanding New Business Educator Winner

The Business Teachers Association of New York State Names Michele Leonardo as Outstanding New Business Educator Winner

Second Time in the Same Year to Be Recognized by an Association for Educators in Business

The Business Teachers Association of New York State (BTANYS) announces Michele Leonardo, business teacher at Baldwin High School, as the winner of the Julian A. Milkes Award for Outstanding New Business Educator for 2018-2019. She was also honored this year with “Outstanding New Teacher of the Year” by The Long Island Business Teachers' Association.

Ms. Leonardo is being recognized for her excellence as well as her creative and innovative approaches in the classroom. Her enthusiasm, passion, and hard work in motivating her business education students is certainly recognizable to those around her.  She will receive a plaque by the regional director of NYSBTA.  

A colleague says of her: “Michele has impressed many in her first year. She is humble, hardworking, creative, able to multi-task, work cooperatively with her colleagues, and most importantly provide a challenging learning experience for students of all strengths and challenges. Students love learning with Ms. Leonardo.”

Ms. Leonardo finds innovative methods to help her students connect the curriculum to their own daily lives. Her lessons are timely, and she utilizes technology to enhance student engagement in the lesson, as well as, to boost their skills with working with computers. Additionally, Ms. Leonardo works extremely hard to make the Life Skills class relevant and easily accessible. Overall, she plans each lesson with care and professionalism, always keeping in mind what a student entering the business world would need to know.
