AP Drawing Students Showcase First Series of 20-Piece Portfolio
Young Artists Display Talent and Creativity Through Unique Artwork
Baldwin High School students in Advanced Placement Drawing are in the midst of completing a 20-piece portfolio as part of the course requirements due in May. Fifteen of these artworks are driven by the student’s “Essential Question.” Each essential question differs: sometimes it’s a personal question, while other times it's social, economic, or a political question or even dealing with materials and elements in art. Students spend the year documenting and providing evidence of research, investigation, practice, experiment, and revision. The final art works should show synthesis of all the ideas the student has documented.
Students in AP Drawing often go on to prestigious art colleges, but some are invested in other careers, and just truly enjoy art making. Some Baldwin High School alumni have attended The Cooper Union, Pratt University, Rhode Island School of Design, Savannah College of Art & Design, Maryland Institute College of Art, Parsons School of Design, Fashion Institute of Art, and most of the SUNY and CUNY art schools. Many alumni work in the art field, including fashion designers, professional photographers, video producers, advertising designers and marketers, computer graphic designers, architects, art educators, museum curators, and professional working artists.
