Baldwin High School Student Wins First Place in Stock Market Game Challenge
Senior, Rabbiah Arif, Takes Home Top Prize
Baldwin High School students in the Personal Financial Literacy class taught by business teacher, Mr. Gregory Kelley, participated in the Stock Market Game, an online simulation of the global capital markets created by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA). Rabbiah Arif, a senior, came in first out of 600 students. Mr. Kelley’s class also placed fifth out of 26 schools across Long Island.
The Stock Market Game not only engages the students, but has been proven to enhance academic performance, financial knowledge, as well as saving and investing habits. Many of the Baldwin students are also enrolled in the Global Business/Entrepreneurship Academy. Students begin with a $100,000 portfolio and are tasked with making investments in stocks, mutual funds, and bonds. Rabbiah successfully turned her initial investment into $126,642.71 during the three-month competition. This is the first time in over a decade for a student from Baldwin High School to place first in the bi-yearly competition.
