Baldwin High School Among “Best High Schools” in America

U.S. News & World Report Ranks District Second Year in a Row

Baldwin Union Free School District is pleased to announce for the second year in a row Baldwin High School was among the best high schools to place in the U.S. News & World Report. Approximately 18,000 public high schools ranked after a review of nearly 24,000 schools nationwide.

“I am incredibly proud that U.S. News and World Report has once again nationally recognized us among the Best High Schools,” said Dr. Shari L. Camhi, superintendent of schools for Baldwin Union Free School District. “We not only placed in approximately the top 25% of New York State schools, but we also improved our ranking. This distinction is a true reflection of the hard work, commitment, and innovation occurring within the district. I would like to thank our administration, faculty, staff, students, and families for helping us achieve this designation.”

Out of 1,218 high schools in New York state, Baldwin High School ranked #322, more than a 60 point increase from last year’s ranking of #383. According to U.S. News, the rankings are based on state education data collected from the 2018-19 school year and six indicators of school quality, including graduation rates, college readiness and underserved student performance. College readiness specifically measures participation and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams.

“The U.S. News and World Report rankings are based on schools’ performance on state assessments and how effectively they are at preparing students for college. Of note, the data collected is based solely on AP and IB credits and does not yet consider dual enrollment or college-level courses,” Dr. Camhi adds. “I am thrilled to share that there are currently 662 filled “seats” in dual enrollment courses taken at Baldwin High School, as well as a partnership with Nassau County Community College launching in the fall. As a result of our innovative practices, many of our seniors will go on to their college of choice with college credits already on their transcript, which can ultimately lower tuition costs and lessen student loan debt.”

With a graduation rate of 97%, some of Baldwin High School’s unique and award-winning programs comprise its signature Academic Academies – a specialized school to career program – a community college partnership, Virtual Enterprise, AP courses, as well as nationally recognized arts and athletics. The district has been visited by educational leaders from across the country due to the success and innovativeness of its programs and instruction.
