Baldwin High School Gives Outstanding Performance at NYSSBA 2022 Convention

Concert Choir Among Only Three Musical Acts Selected to Perform

For the first time ever, the Baldwin High School Concert Choir recently performed at the New York School Boards Association (NYSSBA)’s Annual Convention & Expo. Attended by thousands of school board members and education leaders from across the state, this year’s convention took place in Syracuse, NY at the Oncenter and Marriott Syracuse Downtown. The Concert Choir has been recognized as a NYSSMA Gold Rated Ensemble and is the capstone of the district's vocal program.

Following a keynote address, the forty-four Baldwin singers sang in the atrium of the Oncenter during the conference’s Friday morning break under the direction of their teacher, Ms. Kristine Costello. Ms. Costello led her students in a challenging repertoire from a diverse range of composers. Songs included “The Lord Bless You and Keep You,” “Senzenina,” “Omnia Sol,” “Ain't Got Time to Die,” and “Famine Song.”

The Concert Choir was selected after an extensive application process, which encompassed the submission of a recording of the students performing, to the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) president, who was responsible for choosing the final three student musical acts for the convention.

“We are honored that NYSSMA leadership selected our Concert Choir to embody the conference theme of ‘Together Again,’” said Andre Poprilo, director of fine and performing arts for Baldwin Union Free School District. “We have worked hard to emerge from the pandemic to perform high quality music that represents many voices in the literature. Congratulations to this group of talented musicians on an outstanding performance and thank you to Ms. Kristine  Costello for helping our students get to where they are today.”

The Concert Choir’s next performance will take place at the Baldwin High School annual Winter Concert II on December 21, 2022.
