Two Baldwin High School Musicians Accepted into the New York State Band Director’s Association Honor Band

Aaron Ashby and Paul Clement Selected Based on NYSSMA Performances and Recommendations

Baldwin High School students, Aaron Ashby and Paul Clement Jr., have been accepted into the highly prestigious New York State Band Directors Association (NYSBDA) Honor Band. The talented musicians were selected based on their outstanding NYSSMA solo performances and high scores, as well as recommendations from their music teachers. In addition, Aaron, grade 11, who plays the clarinet, was invited to perform at the 2024 NYSBDA Symposium in Syracuse, NY this March, while Paul, grade 12, who plays the percussion, will serve as an alternate.

“We take great pride in the accomplishments of our students and are honored to be affiliated with the NYSBDA organization,” said Andre Poprilo, director of fine & performing arts for Baldwin Union Free School District. “Congratulations to Aaron and Paul on this incredible achievement.”

Throughout the years, NYSBDA has strived to maintain the original premise of its founding fathers, yet also grow with the changing times. The association has earned the reputation of being the pre-eminent representative professional association for band directors in New York State and the annual symposium has come to be recognized as the leading professional development conference for band directors.

The theme for this year’s symposium is “Building Community Through Band.”
