Baldwin UFSD Celebrates Fire Prevention Month
Baldwin Fire Department Educates Lenox Students on Fire Safety
October has been named national Fire Prevention Month to help raise awareness about fire safety awareness and ensure homes and families are protected. Schools across Baldwin Union Free School District celebrated this important awareness month by promoting fire safety methods and educating students and families through various activities.
During a PTA-sponsored event, Lenox Elementary School welcomed the Baldwin Fire Department to help educate students, K-2, on fire safety. The Ladder 2 firefighters presented on fire safety, from checking smoke detectors throughout the year to knowing the simple fire safety mnemonic device: “stop, drop and roll.” Students each received their very own firefighter helmet and a packet with crayons and a coloring book featuring safety tips to help practice fire prevention at home.
“The children especially appreciated the firetruck demonstration, where they each got the opportunity to climb inside the fire engine with the help of their teachers and fire chief,” said Dr. Sheilah Jefferson, principal of Lenox Elementary School. “The students genuinely enjoyed the fun and educational experience. Thank you to our PTA and Baldwin Fire Department for helping to make this happen.”
