Virtual Enterprise Advances to Final Rounds in National Competition
Baldwin High School’s SuppLI Beats Out Thousands of Competitors
Baldwin High School’s Virtual Enterprise, SuppLI, made it into the top 10% nationally in the Virtual Enterprise International (VEI) latest competition, the National Newsletter Competition. In addition, the simulated subscription box company, which solely sells and markets Long Island-based products, advanced to the final rounds in the National Business Plan Competition at the International Trade Show, beating out of thousands of competitors nationwide. However, the high school students, who are a part of the Global Business & Entrepreneurship Academy, will be unable to take SuppLI to the next level since VEI had to cancel the New York City trade show due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. VEI is working to recognize all of the finalists. A written business plan competition, coupled with a distance learning Q&A, may also take place some time in late April or May. SuppLI took home five gold awards at the VEI Long Island Competition back in January.
For the interim, as schools remain closed and competitions are postponed or canceled, the Baldwin High School students in SuppLI are focusing on a number of new projects to help promote their business and increase their customer-base, including a radio commercial, loyalty reward point system, corporate social responsibility program, an app, info graphic about the subscription box market. They most recently created a Public Service Announcement (PSA) published on their website and Instagram about helping to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
VEI is a national educational nonprofit transforming students through authentic business experiences which prepare them for fulfilling, financially secure futures. VEI currently support 15,000 students across the U.S. each year and is part of a global network spanning 40 countries and 7,500 student-run businesses. The students assume leadership roles, including CEO, create ventures, develop marketing plans, and conduct transactions with other simulated businesses around the world.
