Baldwin High School Proudly Unveils Fully Finished Learning Collaboratory

Baldwin Union Free School District recently unveiled the latest innovation—The Learning Collaboratory. Designed with the help of Darren Faccilonga, the district's director of instructional technology & technology community partnerships, and his tech team, the pre-existing high school library was transformed into a collaborative, open environment. Students can now easily work together in this shared space, read and study in a modern but functional setting, while taking advantage of all the technical advances the new Learning Collaboratory has to offer.
The new room features five private glass-enclosed spaces with video conferencing equipment, dry-erase tables and walls, projectors, moveable seating, and more!
In addition, the students also contributed to the space through the digital artwork hanging on the walls and the benches built by the Wood-Working class under the guidance of their teacher, Mr. Scott Peritz.
The district unveiled the new space with Debra Mulé, Nassau County Legislator; Roger Tilles, New York State Board of Regents; B.A. Schoen, Nassau BOCES Board Member and Baldwin High School graduate; and Board of Education president, Susan Cools, and Board trustee, Mary Jo O'Hagan. Speeches were also eloquently delivered by students, Samaya Lindo-Smellie, Grade 10, and Jasmin Tiong-Smith, Grade 11, who are frequent users of the contemporary library. Dr. Shari L. Camhi, superintendent of schools, explained the vision behind the Learning Collaboratory before attendees were invited to take a tour and ask questions.
